Ramesh has successfully led companies and managed transitions for family businesses in diversified industries to achieve sustainable, profitable growth. He is recognized for his strategic thinking skills and achievements as a turnaround expert and operational excellence. He has been an advisor and leadership coach to public and private companies in India.He has coached the Executive Management team of a large Indian infrastructure company which develops airports, energy infrastructure and roads. He has also advised small and medium enterprises in their leadership development and operational improvements and to Private Equity Funds in target company selection and strategic growth plans. He is a past board member of Motilal Oswal Financial Services, a diversified financial services company. He served as Chairman of the remuneration committee and member of the audit committee.
Ramesh is the former Managing Director of Carborundum Universal (CUMI), a manufacturer of abrasives and ceramics, which is part of the USD $3.8 Billion Murugappa Group. He led the fully integrated manufacturing operations across its four joint-ventures and six subsidiaries. As MD, in addition to accelerating the annual growth rate of the firm from traditional 5% to 15%, he led corporate initiatives in Australia and UAE, and built the roadmap for international expansion in China, Russia and Europe. He was instrumental in consolidating the operations of CUMI and putting it on a solid growth path.
Prior to his stint as MD of CUMI, Ramesh was the CEO of Cut Fast Abrasives (a CUMI subsidiary) and Wendt India Ltd, an Indo-German joint venture in super abrasives and capital equipment manufacturing. He was instrumental in turning around the JV into a market leader and profitable company. He held sales and marketing positions at SKF, a global supplier of bearings, and HMT, a machine tool manufacturer.
Ramesh is a Mechanical Engineer from the Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. He is actively involved as a Rotarian in social projects and is trustee of a CBSE school in Northern India with 5000 students. He is a keen badminton player and yoga enthusiast.
